I was first introduced to Falafel on Broadway by a colleague, whose boyfriend stumbled upon this Middle Eastern fare jewel by accident. Located in Harlem, near the 1 train station at 125th street on the West side, it opened several months ago. Occupying a slightly cramped space, it has a high takeout counter that would dwarf anyone but the tall Turkish men who stand behind it preparing kebabs. There are four small dining tables in the back corner and nothing more. What it lacks in decor, it makes up for in the food, providing cheap and delicious treats. Highlights include their life-changing hummus and hot sauce.
I haven't always had the best relationship with hummus. I attempted to make the Middle Eastern dip during Christmas one year. I ended up with a nearly inedible sticky, over-garlicky paste. It was something I would never live down and that my family would tease me about every Christmas from then on. Knowing how complex whipping up hummus can be, I bow down to the Falafel on Broadway guys and their extraordinary hummus. What makes theirs so special? Fava beans. Who knew the sidedish favored by Hannibal Lector in Silence of the Lambs to accompany a meal of human flesh could take hummus to a whole new level? FOB's hummus is smooth, tangy and sweet thanks to a small mound in the center of chopped onion, olive oil and crushed fava beans. And the price, just $4, which includes a package of pita bread.
Their hot sauce too has permanently altered me. Not only does it provide a lot of kick, but you can taste all the herbs and spices, adding a richness and depth usually missing in other hot sauces. Always ask for it to accompany an FOB platter. A kufta (a mix of lamb and steak that's been blissfully marinated) kebab platter includes two sides and costs $8. Falafel on Broadway delivers for free and also caters. A spread of hummus, falafel, grape leaf and mujadara (lentils and rice with carmelized onions) platters for a party of 50 people costs as little as $250.

Ofrece comida buenisima a unos precios super baratos.
Falafel on Broadway ofrece varios platos combinados.
